W.P. 4 Zero Draft

Title: Messages and Censorship in Music

  1. Introduction
Hook: How do you feel when you listen to music? Does it make you happy? Sad? Moved? Does it sound good? What if all the music we listen to was not allowed to be put on the market? Many groups of people have tried to get inappropriate and explicit music to not be sold, distributed, anything. All because of the messages they portray.
Thesis: I do not necessarily take a side, but I want to inform on what organizations have tried to destroy music. I also plan to create an understanding of some of the messages that have been put into music.

Subhead 1: The history of where music censorship came from is almost 70 years worth of songs and reasons that people try to stop it.

Topic: In the 1940s and 1950s music was changed forever with the creation of Rock and Roll music. The ways the music made the youth at that time dance and the content of the lyrics were one of concern to the adults and parents of the Golden Age United States.

Subhead 2: The messages put into this music were seen as inappropriate, and even sacrilegious.
Topic: Artists like Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, etc. were seen as the ones to start the music that gave rise to a revolution. Messages and songs about girls and the beat and rhythm to the songs caused parents to strike this music down.

Subhead 3: Censorship on music has been a controversial issue for decades.

Topic: Many parents and organizations have been against music for what it stands for. They believe it is extremely inappropriate, blasphemous, etc. The music industry has even been directly approached from these groups. This is why there is the way to censor music today.

Subhead 4: Other techniques have been developed to hide messages in music over the years.

Topic: Many techniques have been developed by artists to put things into songs that people want to hear. Lyricists use very clever word play to hide things using double entendres, innuendoes, and many more. Many artists have used a technique called "BackMasking". And many more have came about.

Conclusion: The music industry has changed dramatically lately. Now that you are informed on everything dealing with the messages in music, you can make your own decision.
